It's a romantic notion... sitting around a campfire, listening to someone strumming a tune under the stars and a full moon on the beach somewhere. It's practically the stuff beer and s'mores commercials are made of. We had all the elements, except the musical talent.
For my never-you-mind birthday, we were in California, visiting my aunt and uncle and attending a friend's wedding. My aunt and uncle are quite musical. I used to be, too... I mean, seven years of clarinet squawking and some piano lessons as a kid have to count for something, right? I've always wanted to play the guitar, but it always seems so BIG! My uncle had a ukulele and gave me enough of a lesson to spark some serious thought.
We talked it over, and when we got home, we found this beauty. It's a concert uke, smaller than my uncle's baritone, but not so little as a soprano uke. Perfect size for the van, perfect size for me. Bran finds it easy enough to use as well. We're storing it behind the driver's seat, using our bike repair stand to hold it in place. It's the perfect place for both items. It's clamped to a table leg support and the uke can sit upright between the driver's seat and the console.
We're already masters of 'Mary Had A Little Lamb' and 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star'. Keeping our ears out for a Corona commercial casting call! :)
